Charlie Kirk said, “When discourse ends, violence begins.”
And Jesus said, “It is finished.”The dialogue began with Adam (a-dam’ = man). God had much to say to Adam, considering he was a brand new creation, one of his kind, not another like him. Adam may not have had any questions, but God had much knowledge to give him... and a warning-- “Do not eat of that one tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for in the day that you eat of it you, dying you shall surely die” Gen. 2:17. And then the violence began.
Even so, there was a time amid the violence, when God had much discourse with man, albeit through prophets. The message was virtually the same always... Repent; Come back to me; Keep My Law; Love one another.
But up to the time of Noah (1600+ years later) man was wicked. “The earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence” Gen. 6:11. So God brought His own righteous “extinction level event” on the Earth in the form of a destructive, catastrophic, annihilating flood. But he spared Noah and his family (8 souls) because He chose them. God is Sovereign and Noah was considered a righteous man by the Sovereign God.
But for the next 300 –
400 years after the flood, man persisted in wickedness, so God decided He would
work with one man (Abraham) to bring about a holy nation (Israel),
Gen. 12:2-3, “I will make you a great nation; I
will bless you and make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will
bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you
all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
So, from Abraham and the Patriarchs to Moses and the Law; to the Promised Land; to David; to the divided kingdom and exile; to rebuilding the Temple; to Jesus and the crucifixion and resurrection; and Israel’s final rejection... God turns His back on the Jews, the Temple is destroyed, and the discourse (with the Jews) is over.
But God now does something else... He turns to the Gentiles by way of Paul the Apostle to the Gentiles and is now calling out the Body of Christ (church, Jew and Gentile) which will be raptured away to heaven before the final “violence” of Revelation. No more Law to keep; no more “works” to perform. Now salvation is by faith and faith alone in the finished work of Jesus on the cross. Faith... something the Jews never accepted. Their fall and rejection was because of their persistent “UNBELIEF.”
The whole Bible is God’s
Word to man. It is the only discourse now available, but only to born-again
believers. The Bible says, “The natural (unregenerate) man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God,
for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are
spiritually discerned.” 1Cor.
2:14
And Rom. 8:7-9 says, “the mind of the flesh
is hostile to God: it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
Those controlled by the flesh cannot please God. If anyone does not have the
Spirit of Christ, he is not His.”
So, God once again speaks
to man (born-again believers, Christians) by way of His Word (Bible)
and we hear Him... and we speak to Him (prayer) and He hears us.
This is the only discourse left to the world between God and His creation. When
the “church” is taken up (the Body of Christ of which Jesus is the Head),
the discourse ends! The true Church is not the catholics, not the protestants,
not the Mormons, not ANY denomination... but the born-again new creation
in Christ.
