John 6:51, 53-58...
I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone
eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My
flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”
Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless
you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in
you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will
raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is
drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in
him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who
feeds on Me will live because of Me.
Verse 60... This was a hard saying for many who heard Him.
I can’t help but think that most of the Israelites did not understand the significance of substitutionary atonement.
So it is with Jesus. He was the sacrifice... and He is our portion. We partake of the bread and the cup... His body and His blood, symbolically, to remember Him dying for us in our stead. And even though Jesus had not yet been sacrificed, FAITH in what God had instituted saved many Old Testament saints.
In verse 63 of John 6, Jesus tries to explain things...
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
Verse 66... But many of His disciples went back, and walked no more with Him.
In the “spiritual realm” there are realities that are difficult to conceptualize in the temporal world. For example, Jesus said, My food is to do the will of Him Who sent Me John 4:34
And, of course, Jesus is talking about spiritual food for the spiritual man. In fact, I have to say that all spiritual knowledge is spiritually discerned, is it not?
1 Cor. 2:14 says... But a natural person does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Man is admonished about this many times in the Word of God...
Isaiah 55:8-9 says... For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth--so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts!
How can we know anything OF God? .......Learn of Jesus
The question was asked of Job, Can you discover the depths of God? Can you, by searching, discover the limits of the Almighty, (can you) ascend to His heights, (can you) extend to His widths, and comprehend His infinite perfection? Job 11:7 AMP
Colossians 1:19 I think gives us one answer...
For it pleased the Father for all the fullness [of deity—the sum total of His essence, all His perfection, powers, and attributes] to dwell [permanently] in Him (the Son). AMP
In Jesus dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and we are complete in Him.
Again....... Learn of Jesus.
Learn of Me—for I am gentle and humble in heart! Matthew 11:29
The natural man can only see the earthly side. The heavenlies are beyond his reach. Even we, who are no longer the “natural” man do not fully perceive and comprehend the infinite God.
For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now we know in part, but then we shall know just as we also are known. 1 Corinthians 13:12
And so, eternally....... Learn of Jesus
When He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak, and He will show you things to come. He shall glorify Me (Jesus): for He shall receive of Mine, and shall show it unto you. All things that the Father has are Mine: therefore said I, that He shall take of Mine, and shall show it unto you. John 16:13-15
We should ponder “ALL THINGS THAT THE FATHER HAS” ...which also embody Jesus... which the Holy Spirit will make known unto us!!!
So Always....... Learn of Jesus
Our Father in Heaven, we would SEE Jesus... and we do see
Jesus, although dimly yet, but then face to face. Father, we want to KNOW Jesus...
and we do know Jesus, but for now, in part only. We want to BE like Jesus. And
we are, in Your eyes, in Him. You have washed us, cleansed us, made us holy,
justified us, and made us heirs with Christ.... every one of us. Jesus is the
First and only Begotten Son, but You, in Your abundant mercy have begotten us
again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. We
thank You Lord. The only way I know to manifestly thank You is love, humility, obedience,
worship, prayer, service, abiding in Christ, and remembering always. We
remember You today with this service of love and worship, and with our prayers.
I pray that we would spend every moment of every day abiding in Christ, walking
in the Holy Spirit that we would not sin against You... until You come. In Jesus’
Holy Name, Amen.
