DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME

First century New Testament believers and the contemporary “church” are two VERY different phenomena. One started right….one went way wrong.

And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of Me. Luke 22:19

Is not the cup of blessing that we bless a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread. 1 Cor. 10:16

...the Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread:
And when He had given thanks, He brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is My body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of Me.
After the same manner also He took the cup, when He had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in My blood: this do ye, as often as ye drink it, in remembrance of Me. For as often as you eat this bread, and drink this cup, you do show the Lord's death till He come. 1 Cor. 11:23-26
Weeks and months go by without this remembrance in many “churches”.

The first “church”….
And they steadfastly persevered, devoting themselves constantly to the instruction and fellowship of the apostles, to the breaking of bread [including the Lord’s Supper] and prayers.
And a sense of awe (reverential fear) came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were performed through the apostles (the special messengers).
And all who believed (who adhered to and trusted in and relied on Jesus Christ) were united and [together] they had everything in common;
And they sold their possessions (both their landed property and their movable goods) and distributed the price among all, according as any had need.
And day after day they regularly assembled in the temple with united purpose, and in their homes they broke bread [including the Lord’s Supper]. They partook of their food with gladness and simplicity and generous hearts,
Constantly praising God and being in favor and goodwill with all the people; and the Lord kept adding [to their number] daily those who were being saved [from spiritual death]. Acts 2:42-47 …Amplified.

In general….where is this happening today? I visited a local "church" the last four weeks (because, admittedly, I am looking for a new "home") and in the four weeks time, there was no breaking of bread. I finally had to ask, "When do you all break bread?" The pastor told me, "Quarterly." QUARTERLY? He said the Bible does not specifically "schedule" a time. He did say the Bible says "as often as." ....as often as WHEN? Can one really not discern the instruction of example in Acts 2?  And they steadfastly persevered, devoting themselves constantly to the instruction of the apostles, to the breaking of bread and prayers.
So let me re-evaluate...we must devote ourselves to the instruction of the Apostles, and prayer CONSTANTLY, but to the breaking of bread - quarterly?

We are SO in trouble.
