Isaiah 40

Verse 12, Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, or measured heaven with a span of his hand, and
calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Who has weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as His counselor has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, and taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, and showed Him the way of understanding?
The implied answer is, “No one but God.”

Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust on the scales; look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing.
And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor its beasts sufficient for a burnt offering. All nations before Him are as nothing, and they are counted by Him less than nothing and worthless.

To whom then will you liken God?
In the Hebrew "God" is El (ale) the one true God, Jehovah, Almighty, as El Shaddai.

Or what likeness will you compare to Him? The workman molds an image, the goldsmith overspreads it with gold, and the silversmith casts silver chains. Whoever is too impoverished for such a contribution chooses a tree that will not rot; he seeks for himself a skillful workman to prepare a carved image that will not totter. Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
Have you, Israel, not known? Have you, evolutionists, not known? Have you, astronomers, not known? Have you, physicists, not known? You who will not believe, have you not known? Do you not know that you are without excuse!

The Apostle to the Gentiles, Paul tells us in Rom. 1:20; “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse.”

Continuing in verse 22... It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in. He reduces the princes to nothing; He makes the judges of the earth useless. Scarcely shall they be planted, scarcely shall they be sown, scarcely shall their stock take root in the earth, when He will also blow on them, and they will wither, and the whirlwind will take them away like stubble. “To whom then will you liken Me, or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One.

“Holy One” in the Hebrew can refer to “saints” as sanctified, depending on context. As used here, it is a Divine Name.

Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these things...
An appeal from God to shift our focus from earthly concerns to the heavenly, and see the majesty and sovereignty of God. Seek Divine understanding.

...who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name...
Calling them EACH by name signifies authority and intimate knowledge. We have authority, in the intimacy of our families, to name each and every child. God, in His Omnipotent Sovereignty, does whatever He wants.

...by the greatness of His might and the strength of His power; not one is missing.
He calls them by name and not one of them fails to respond.

We read in Job 38:31-33, “Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades or loosen the belt of Orion? Can you bring forth the
constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear and her cubs? Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you set their dominion over the earth?

NO! We can’t.
We can only understand (in faith), or mis-understand (in un-belief).

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary.
The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
Gen. 1:1 says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The word God is plural, triune, three in one... God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. As far as I can tell, God the Son is the only one who has stepped out of the Godhead to reveal the Godhead. He has been given (or taken) a name. He is Jehovah and He is the Redeemer Christ.
So, God we can define. Lord we can define. But the insertion of “Creator” there draws my attention. God is Elohim. Lord is Jehovah. But how to define “Creator?” You tell me (with scripture evidence).

Continuing reading Isaiah... His understanding is unsearchable.
It is impossible for finite minds to fully and adequately search out all the proofs of his wisdom and skill.

He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
