Isaiah 9:6-7
For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government will be on His
shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful, (because He IS
wonderful and wondrous) Counselor (because in Him are hidden all
the treasures of wisdom and knowledge), Mighty God (for He is a
refuge and a fortress), Everlasting Father (the ancient of days, the self-existent I AM), Prince
of Peace (chiefest of 10,000; our propitiation Rom. 5:1, He restores my
soul Psalm 23:3). Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no
end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and
upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.
And you shall call His name Jesus. The name Jesus (or Joshua, or Yeshua in Hebrew, or Iesous in Greek) means Jehovah is salvation. Jehovah is introduced in Gen. 2:4 into the affairs of man in a continuous and increasing self-revelation. Jehovah is God in a special relation to man for the purpose of reconciliation, as we see throughout scripture.
The entire Godhead (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) was involved in creation. God the Son (Jehovah) steps out and manifests Himself, at times, throughout the Old Testament for the purpose of redemption. In the New Testament, He is incarnated in Jesus... fully God and fully man. Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, sinless in Mary, a young virgin.
The themes and concepts in the Bible are so fantastic, it would have made the best-selling novel of all time. But it is TRUE! It is REAL! And in fact, the Bible IS the best selling “book” of all time. And yet, so many will not believe it. The Bible is too humiliating to some people; it is too critical, too restrictive; and too condemning... with good reason, but there are those who will not accept it because they love darkness rather than light. For some people, the difference between light and darkness is the flip of a wall switch. They love their sin, rather than righteousness.
The only problem with Christmas (in my opinion) is – Jesus wasn’t born in December; we are no where commanded or asked to celebrate His birth (religiously speaking); Christmas was introduced as an official version of Saturnalia, which was and is a pagan ritual; Christmas is more literally a celebration of the death of Christ, over and over again in the Romish “Christ’s Mass” not to mention the perversion of Santa Claus and the rest.
But in today’s world, Christmas has lost all its pagan origins, corruption, and perversions, and its religious or “Christian” meaning, except, I should say, among Christians. Today it is a national holiday commemorating the birth of Jesus. The world’s meaning of all that does not corrupt us unless we celebrate it in our hearts in a worldly fashion. There is an inherent idolatry in celebrating or worshipping a “baby” Jesus. Spiritual discernment and liberty in the Lord will guide our conscience.
Today, I thank God for His Grace. I thank you Father for Your gift. I thank God the Father for His Son, Jesus. I thank You Jesus for Your sacrifice. Today we remember Your birth, Your life and Your death. And we remember the words of the Apostle Paul in 1 Thess. 4:17... We shall be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
I thank You Father that You will restore holiness and
righteousness to this world which You manifested in Jesus our Lord and Savior
in whose name I pray, Amen.
