The Virgin Birth and The Resurrection

Invariably, around the dinner table with family or at some outdoor venue with strangers, a believer is challenged with someone’s declaration, “I don’t believe in God.” This could arise out of general conversation about religion, as a counterpoint in which no one ever agrees, or as direct opposition in response to “Let’s pray” (say grace) before dinner, or as an intentional provocation or confrontation to the believer’s faith. This is the kind of defiance, on an unbeliever’s part, that develops from fear... fear of the unknown.

There is no confidence in their statement of disbelief. How can there be? They can neither prove nor disprove the non-existence of God. This unsurety is very disturbing to the unbeliever. In their minds they wonder, “What if there IS a God? I am in great danger by saying I don’t believe in Him.”

Yes, you are.

Without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever comes to God must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who earnestly and diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

I cannot prove to you that God exists. He has proven it to me,

My ears had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen You. Job 42:5

But I cannot prove Him to you because it is totally by and of FAITH that we know Him and the Lord Jesus Christ, Who has manifested Him (the Father) to us.

So then, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Romans 10:17

Jesus is eternally the Word of God.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. John 1:1-4

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

Chicken or the Egg
I am reminded of the incessantly repeated question... “Which came first… the chicken or the egg?” A debate of intellectual vanity. The question and the argument persist because the obvious is not believed and accepted. Such is the “scientific” community. They cannot accept the origin of life to be Creation or else they would have to abandon their own beloved “god” (the theory of evolution) which is a prime directive in their world of hypotheses. They cannot “intermingle” what they perceive as a competing “religion” with their god… SCIENCE. There is much the unbelieving world does not accept. If one’s job is to continually search, then one doesn’t really want to know the answer, does one? Otherwise, one’s job would be over. Imagine bringing order to chaos, knowledge to ignorance, understanding to the unknown, reason to insanity, certainty to doubt, peace to strife.

So, which came first… the chicken or the egg?

Those who do not believe in God can never answer that question correctly. It is a rhetorical question for them… an endless debate. What a waste!

But there is another question of much greater importance.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ?

Jesus was born of a virgin. He was the incarnate Son of God. He was sinless by virtue of God’s seed. He was also God the Son (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). He was the embodiment of the Holy Trinity. He was crucified after a three year revelatory ministry among the Jews as their Messiah. Being fully God, death had no power or claim over Jesus. Only those who sin die. His death on the cross was voluntary. He submitted to death. The sins of the world were laid on Him, as a sacrificial lamb. And at that moment, God the Father left Him, “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Matthew 27:46 ...a man, to die alone with the sins of the world. Three days later, He resurrected, by His own power back to life, being witnessed by hundreds of people who give us today the testimony of their witness.

So, to not believe in God (His Existence), you must disprove the virgin birth, and you must disprove the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Both events are a matter of historical record by countless witnesses kept through history to this day.

So the question is...

Can you disprove the virgin birth?

Can you disprove the resurrection?
